Path length is the total distance travelled between any 2 points in a journey, say from A to B.

Displacement is the shortest distance travelled in between A and B.

Consider the points A and B. Imagine they are goin in a zig zag manner.

The total distance travelled between A and B is path length, whereas the shortest distance that is measured between A and B is displacement.
