Mahalwari settlement- 1) It was initiated by Holt Mackenzie. 2) This was executed in the north-west frontier provinces. 3) The authorities entered into this settlement with the village community where they held land in common tenancy or with the landlords. 4) Land revenue wasn't fixed. 5) An assessment of the land was made. The revenue was charged on the 'net produce'.

The Permanent Settlement, also known as the Permanent Settlementof Bengal, was an agreement between the East India Company and Bengali landlords to fix revenues to be raised from land, with far-reaching consequences for both agricultural methods and productivity in the entire British Empire and the political realities Mahalwari. The Mahalwari system(Hindi: महलवारी) was a systemintroduced by Lord William Bentinck . The other two systems were the Permanent Settlement of Bengal in 1793 and the Ryotwari system in 1820. It covered the States of Punjab,Awadh and Agra, parts of Orissa and Madhya Pradesh.
