Petal is the non-essential whorls that are brightly coloured to attract insects for pollination.

Petaloid is when the perianth is non-green ie when petals and sepals appear to be undiffrerentiated

Petals and petaloids:

A petal is an individual part of the corolla, they are usually non-green and are responsible for the attraction of pollinating agents. In certain conditions the calyx and corolla are fused to form a new whorl called the perianth, with its individual components called tepals.

A non-green perianth resembling petals is called a petaloid.

Both petals and petaloids serve an identical function of increasing the chances of pollination. These both attract the insects with their bright colours.
