A photoconductive cell (light dependent resistor) is a two-terminal device. This is also called as photo resistor which changes its resistance when light is applied. An increase in illumination will cause a decrease in the resistance, because when light falls on the photoconductive cell, the electrons in photoconductive atoms enter into the conduction state reducing the resistance across the terminals of the photoconductive cell. When the light is absent, the electrons and holes recombine increasing the resistance.

  • Photovoltaic cells generate electricity by absorbing sunlight and using that light energy to create an electrical current.
  • When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers causing electricity to flow.
  • Photovoltaic Cell are used to produce electricity which powers a water pump, well etc.
