The major difference between an AC Generator and a DC Generator is that the DC Generator requires a mechanism to provide a DC output. This can be done mechanically with a commutator or electronically with a rectifier. Internally, all generators produce an alternating voltage. ... All generators require a magnetic field.

Difference between AC n DC Generator use Electromagnetic Induction to convert
mechanical energy into electrical energy.
1. In an AC ,or alternating current Generator the electrical current periodically reverses it's direction.
In this type generator , the current is flow through a coil.
It convert mechanical power into AC electrical power , it work on principle of electromagnetic induction.
It have two commutators.

2. In a DC ,or direct current generator the current flows in One Direction.
In this type generator, The current is not flow through the coil.
It convert mechanical power into DC electrical power, it is also work on principle of electromagnetic induction.
It have only one commutator.

hope it helps you dear
