WAGE EMPLOYMENT Some people work as a salaried employee earning a set amount of money each week. They may be paid weekly, bi-weekly or monthly. These are the ones who work over 40 hours a week, but are paid for 40 no matter what. 
 
 Others work as an hourly employee. They are paid a certain amount per hour they work. Time cards are necessary to keep track and make sure they are paid. Many part time students work their way through college by wage employment.
SELF EMPLOYMENT Self-employed is a situation in which an individual works for himself instead of working for an employer that pays a salary or a wage. A self-employed individual earns his income through
