Photorespiration maintains the carbon economy in plants. No such role in plants. Photorespiration is an energy wastage process. Respiration is an energy producing process.

What are differences between photosynthesis and respiration?

Respiration is the oxidation of food materials to water and carbon dioxide in the presence of oxygen or without oxygen. Photosynthesis takes place in the chloroplast and is dependent on light. Respiration takes place in cytoplasm and mitochondria and is not dependent on light.
