Rotation and Revolution:

  • When a body moves around its axis irrespective of another body then such movement is called Rotation. But, when one body moves around any other body then such movement is called a Revolution.
  • For example, the earth, when the earth moves around its axis it is called the rotation of the earth. It takes about 24 hours for the earth to complete it’s one rotation.
  • The rotation of the earth is responsible for the phenomenon of day and night. It is also very useful in making the wind systems on the earth. But, when the Earth moves around the sun on its elliptical path then this movement is called the revolution of earth around the sun.
  • It takes around "365 days and 6 hours" for earth to complete one full revolution around the sun. The revolution of earth is crucial for maintaining different seasons on the earth.
