Sectional interest groups:They seek to promote the interest of a particular section or group of society. Their main objective is well being and advancement of their members. E. g trade unions (AITUC, INTUC), business associations(CII, FICCI) etc. They represent the interests of society like workers, employees, business persons, lawyers, doctors, etc

Public interest groups:They aim to represent a common or general interest of society. They do not represent a section of society but the society as a whole and are also called promotional groups because they promote collective rather than selective good.They aspire to help groups other than their own members.E. g. BAMCEF(Backward and Minorities Community Employees Federation.
