Distinguish between Sodium nitrate and sodium sulphite using dilute sulphuric acid.​

Explanation:

Sodium nitrate gives colourless vapours of nitric acid which condenses to from nitric acid. Sodium sulphite gives colourless gas with smell of burning sulphur which is acidic in nature which means that SO2 is realeases.

NaNO3 + dil. H2SO4 → Na2SO4 + HNO3

(above 200°C)

Adding Dilute Sulphuric Acid to Sodium Sulphite.

Na2SO3 + dil. H2SO4 → Na2SO4 + H2O + SO2

The one which turns acidified K2Cr2O7 from Orange to green is Na2SO3.

The one which turns acidified FeSO4 from green to brown is NaNO3 because HNO3 decomposes into NO2 which does it.
