Answer:The Summer Solstice occurs on 21st June in the Northern hemisphere and on 22nd December in the Southern hemisphere. Winter Solstice occurs on 22nd December in the Northern hemisphere and 21st June in the Southern hemisphere.
On Summer Solstice the axis of the earth is tilted towards the sun hence it is summer in the northern hemisphere and on Winter solstice the axis is tilted away from the sun so it is winter in the northern hemisphere. Reverse is the case on the Southern hemisphere.
On these two days, the day is longest if it is Summer Solstice and shortest if it is Winter Solstice.
