Landless labourer or called as farm labourers come from landless families and usually work on other farmers' fields. Landless labourers do not have a right over the crops grown on the land they work. Instead they are paid wages by farm owners for whom they work. Wages can be in cash or in kind e.g. crops. Sometimes the labourers get meals also. Wages vary widely from region to region, from crop to crop, from one farm activity to another like sowing and harvesting. There is also a wide variation in the duration of employment. A farm labourer might be employed on a daily basis, or for one particular season, or for a particular farm activity like harvesting, or for the whole year.
While a farmer who is the owner of his farm may or may not work on his own farm. He can employ farm labourers or landless labourers to work on their farms. Farmers who own their farms may have large or medium plots extending over 10 hectares, hire labourers for various farm activities. The owner of the farms have all the modern farming equipments that are used in farming activities like thresher, harvester etc.
