a) Sial is composed of silicon and aluminum. It is the upper layer which forms a discontinuous cover over the Earth's crust and is entirely absent from the ocean floor.

Sima is composed of silicon and magnesium. This is the second layer below sial which forms the ocean base.

b) Magma is composed of molten rock and is stored in the Earth's crust. Lava is magma that reaches the surface of our planet through a volcano vent
