Answer:

1) Strictly speaking, conflict resolution is any change in circumstance which brings about a cessation of conflict between two or more forces. War is an obvious example, ‘though it is rarely a permanent solution. The creation of consensus is obviously preferable, if more difficult to achieve. If we kill our opponent, he stops opposing us and our conflict is resolved for a time. But our opponents are rarely alone, and allies often appear or even evolve long after our immediate opponent has been vanquished. But when we convince our opponent to join us, the conflict is resolved more permanently.

Other types of conflict resolution need not involve any agreement or competitive judgement at all. If my opponent and I are both competing for a single prize, lets call it the one true indivisible lollipop, we may still resolve our conflict without competition if either or both of us decide that the lollipop is gross, and we don’t want it.

Another type of conflict resolution is reached when two or more parties who appear to be in conflict, engage in meaningful dialogue and realize that either they are not actually in conflict, or that the conflict they have is different than they initially believed.

Ultimately, true conflict resolution comes from the simple acknowledgement that we are all inextricably intertwined and, given a proud enough perspective, share the same interests. Then, the risks of conflict can be avoided without letting go of the benefits of competition. It just means I’m glad when you win.2)Conflict avoidance is when we find ourselves either trying to avoid a conflict from developing or we step away from a conflict that has started. Why do people do this? Different reasons, yet usually fear or feeling they cannot hope to be heard, understood, empathized with and able to problem solve collaboratively.
