Conductors are the substances which allow current to easily pass through them because of free electrons in them.

Eg. almost all metals such as copper, zinc, aluminium; impure or acidified water.

Insulators are the substances which do not allow currents to pass through them because of lack of free electrons in them.

Eg. pure water, various non metals such as sulphur or carbon; wood, rubber, plastic.
