Valley glaciers are narrow, slow movement of ice in between mountains in the high altitude areas, and flows from a higher point to a lower valley. As the glacier moves, it plucks and erodes the sides of the ridges, causing lateral and vertical erosion. As a result, U-shaped valleys are formed.

Continental ice sheets are layers of ice and snow accumulated as a result of years of on the continental floor and completely covers the terrain. They cover wide areas of the Antarctica and Greenland today and used to cover large areas of N.America and Europe during ice ages.
