western ghats are higher in elevation. Their average elevation is from 900 to 1600 metres.

The Western Ghats runs parallel to the western coast in a north-south direction from the Tapi River to Kanyakumari .

The Eastern Ghats--- 

Eastern ghats are lower in elevation. Their average elevation is 600 metres.

Eastern Ghats runs in a north-east to a south-west direction parallel to the eastern coast from Orissa to the Nilgiri hills. Western Ghat's average width is 50 to 80 km.
