Sodium carbonate is readily decomposed and dissolved by mineral acids like hydrochloric acid with an effervescence of carbon dioxide gas. Sodium sulphate gives a white precipitate of barium sulphate with barium chloride or barium nitrate which is insoluble in hydrochloric acid.
