When an object is about just about to slide it is called limiting friction.
when an object is moving than the friction on it is called kinetic friction.
Till the object does not move it has static friction on it. Static friction< Limiting friction always. why it is self adjusting i will explain with an example...
If the limiting force is say 2500 N.... Then if the force acting on the object is 2000 N then the object doesnt move. In this case the static friction becomes= to 2000 N. Same if a force of 0 N is applied then the static friction is 0 N
