Distinguish test between benzoic acid and ethyl benzene

At room temperature both exist in different physical states. Acetic acid is a pungent liquid and benzoic acid is a white crystalline flaky solid soluble in hot water. Aceti acid can dissove both polar and nonpolar copounds(I2,sulfur).

Still you want to test them then the compounds can be reduced and tested using iodoform. Acetic acid------> actaldehyde gives postive iodoform. Where asBenzoic acid----> benzaldehyde does not.
