Pure substances are further categorized into compounds and elements while mixture may be homogeneous or heterogeneous.  

Pure substances in which molecules are composed of only one kind of atoms are called elements, complexes are made of more than one kind of atoms.

Classification of organism:

Species is a group of living organisms composed of related individuals who may share genes or interbreeding. A species is the basic classification unit, and an organism's taxonomic rank, as well as a biodiversity unit. A species is often described as the largest group of organisms where any two individuals of the respective sexes or types of mating can produce fertile offspring, usually through sexual reproduction.
