On the basis of continued availability, resources are classified as renewable and non- renewable. Renewable are those which can be used continuously year after year, they do not get exhausted and can replenished. Therefore, they are also known as replenishable or inexhaustible resources or renewable resources. Solar energy, water, air and sea are some examples.

On the basis of distribution, resources are classified into two types, namely ubiquitous and localised resources.Resources which are found everywhere on the earth like air and water are called ubiquitous resources.
