SOLUTION

Let x & (12-x) be the the required parts. Then,

 = > {x}^{2} + (12 - x) {}^{2} = 74 \\ = > {2x}^{2} - 24x + 70 = 0 \\ = > {x}^{2} - 12x + 35 = 0 \\ = > {x}^{2} - 7x - 5x + 35 = 0 \\ = > x(x - 7) - 5(x - 7) = 0 \\ = > (x - 7) \: \: (x - 5) = 0 \\ = > x - 7 = 0 \: \: \: or \: \: x - 5 = 0 \\ = > x = 7 \: \: \: or \: x = 5

hope it helps ☺️
