Hi,

Let first part = x

second part = ( 184 - x )

according to the problem given ,

x/3 - ( 184 - x )/7 = 8

=> [ 7x - 3( 184 - x )]/21 = 8

=> 7x - 552 + 3x = 168

=> 10x = 168 + 552

=> 10x = 720

x = 720/10

x = 72

Therefore ,

first part = x = 72

second part = 184 - 72

= 112

I hope this helps you.

Define x and y:

Let one part be x

The other part is (184 - x)

Form equation:

one third of one part May exceed one seventh of the other part by 8

⇒ 1/3 x - 1/7 (184 - x) = 8

Solve x:

1/3 x - 1/7 (184 - x) = 8

1/3 x - 184/7 + 1/7 x = 8

1/3 x + 1/7 x = 8 + 184/7

10/21 x = 240/7

x = 240/7 ÷ 10/21

x = 72

Find the two numbers:

one number = x = 72

The other number = 184 - x = 184 - 72 = 112

Answer: The two numbers are 112 and 72
