This is to satisfy the Division algorithm or the Euclidean algorithm, which must be obeyed by each and every division we are doing.
Euclidean/Division algorithm states that,
"If we divide a given number by another number, then:
Dividend = (Divisor×Quotient)+Remainder "
So as per your first argument when we divide 245 by 8 and if we stop after getting 5 as Remainder then this doesn't obey the algorithm I.e 245 is not equal to (8×3)+5
