divide 34 into two parts such as 4/7 of one part is equal to 2/5 of the other

Let Parts be x and y 
We are given
   , 2x/5 = 4y/7
   
        =  14x = 20y
     so, x = 20y/14
          x = 10y/7 ..................(1)

But x + y = 34

 so, 10y/7 + y = 34 [By using Eqn (1)]
      17y = 34*7
       so, y = 14

Hence, x= 10*14/7 = 20

So, Required Parts are 14 and 20.

Let the one part be x and other part be y

So

x + y = 34. ... ( 1 )

By the condition we get equation

4x/7 = 2y/5

20x = 14y

20x - 14y = 0. ... ( 2 )

Multiplying equation ( 1 ) by 14 we get ,

14x + 14y = 476

Adding equation ( 1 ) & ( 3 ) we get

34x = 476

》x = 476/34

》x = 14

putting x = 14 in equation ( 1 ) we get

14 + y = 34

》y = 34 - 14

》y = 20

So the two parts of 34 are 20 & 14
