let the two parts be x and y
then,
x+y=36 (I)&
x/5=y/7
implies,. 7x-5y=0(ii) by cross multiplation
multiplying eq (I) by 5 and adding both equations we get,
12x= 180
x=180/12. = 15
substituting x in eq (I) we get
y=21
thus, required parts are 15 & 21...

Answer:
let the first part be x and the second part be 36-x
according to the question
1/5 * x = 1/7 ( 36 - x)
x/5 = 36 - x/7
7 * x = 5 ( 36 - x)
7x = 180 - 5x
7x + 5x = 180
12x = 180
x = 15
first part = 15
second part = 21
