Hey there!
Let us take one part as ' x ' , then the other part would be ( 40 - x )
⇒ ( 1 ÷ 4 ) ( x ) = ( 3 ÷ 8 ) ( 40 - x )
⇒ ( x ÷ 4 ) = ( 120 - 3x ÷ 8 )
⇒ 8x = 480 - 12x
⇒ 20x = 480
⇒ x = 480 ÷ 20
⇒ x = 24
One part is 24 , then other part is ( 40 - 24 )
⇒ 16
parts = 24 , 16
Hope my answer helps!

hi here is yo answer -
let one part be x then other part = 40 - x
According to question -
1/4 * x = 3/8 * (40 - x)
⇒ x/4 = (120 - 3x)/8
⇒x/4 * 8 = 120 - 3x
⇒2x = 120 - 3x
⇒5x = 120
⇒x=120/5=24
one part = 24 and other part = 16
