Let us assume the 1st part to be x , therefore the second part is surely (56-x) .

Thrice of the 1st part : 3x

One third of 2nd part :
$\frac{(56 - x)}{3}$
According to question,

$3x - \frac{(56 - x)}{3} = 48 \\ \\ multiply \: both \: sides \: by \: 3 \\ \\ 9x - 56 + x = 144 \\ \\ 10x = 144 + 56 \\ \\ 10x = 200 \\ \\ x = 20$
Therefore the 1st part is 20.

The second part is (56 -20)==> 36
