Given:

  • The ratio 2:3 and a number 60

To Find:

  • The numbers when the number 60 is divided in the ratio of 2:3.

Solution:

There is a formula to divide the given number in the given ratios. The formula is,

a:b = \frac{a}{a+b} × M and \frac{b}{a+b} × M

Here 'a' = 2, 'b' = 3, and 'M' = 60

∴ 2:3 = \frac{2}{2+3} × 60 and \frac{3}{2+3} × 60

On adding the denominators of the above equation we get,

⇒ 2:3 = \frac{2}{5} × 60 and \frac{3}{5} × 60

On cancellation of the divisible terms from the above equation we get,

⇒ 2:3 = 2×12 and 3×12

On multiplying the above equation we get,

⇒ 2:3 = 24 and 36

∴ 60 is divided as 24 and 36 in the ratio of 2:3
