Divide 600 into 2 part s such that40% of one exceeds 60% of other by 120

Let, the two parts be x and y

B/Q

 \frac{40}{100} x =  \frac{60}{100} y + 120

=> x = (60/100y + 120) 100/40

 =  >  \: x = \:  \frac{100}{40}  \times  \frac{60}{100} y +  \frac{100}{40}  \times 120

 =  > x =  \frac{3}{2} y + 300

.

Now,

x + y = 600

=> 3/2 y + 300 + y = 600

 =  >  \frac{3}{2} y + y = 600 - 300

 =  >  \frac{5y}{2}  = 300

=> 5y = 600

=> y = 120

.

So,

 =  > x =  \frac{3}{2} y + 300

 =  > x =  \frac{3}{2} \times 120 + 300

 =  > x = 180 + 300 = 480

.
