therefore, 64 = x + y      ...(i)

x = 3y        ...(ii)

put value of x from eq (ii) in eq (i)

64 = 3y + y

64 = 4y

16 = y

now put value of y in eq (ii)

x = 3(16)

x = 48

therefore, the two parts are 16 and 48
