Find the ratio in whole number:

Ratio = 1/2 : 2/3

multiply both sides by 6:

Ratio = 3 : 4

Divide 742:

Let x be the constant ratio

Ratio = 3x : 4x

3x + 4x = 742

7x = 742

x = 106

Find the parts:

3x = 3(106) = 318

4x = 4(106) = 424

Answer: The two parts are 318 and 424

=====================
=> Ratio given is =

 =  \bf \frac{1}{2}  :  \frac{2}{3}   \\  \\  = \it  ( \frac{1}{2}  : \frac{2}{3}  ) \times 6 \\  \\  =  \bf \:  \underline{3 : 4} \\

Total given = 742

For getting the division, we should take out the product of fraction and total.

So, for 1st part,

 =  >  \it \frac{3}{3 + 4}  \times 742 \\  \\  \it =  \frac{3}{7}  \times 742 \\  \\  =  \it \: 3 \times 106 =  \bf \:  \underline{318}

And for 2nd part,

 =  >   \it\frac{4}{4 + 3}  \times 742 \\  \\  = \it  \frac{4}{7}  \times 742 \\  \\  = \it 4 \times 106 =  \bf \underline{424}

Thus the division of 742 in ratio ½ : ⅔ is

=> 318 and 424 respectively
