Let one part be x and another part will be 84-x.

According to our question 1/3(x)=1/4(84-x)

X/3=84-x/4

By cross multiplication,

4x=3(84-x)

X=252

Solution:

Let the 1st number is =X

And , the 2nd number is= Y

According to question,

X+Y=84

=> X=84-Y -------------------- (1)

AND,

1/3×X=1/4×Y

=>X/3= Y/4

=>3Y =4X

=>3Y= 4(84-Y) {from equation (1)

=>3Y= 336 -4Y

=>3Y+4Y =336

=>7Y=336

=>Y=48

Now, putting the value of Y in the equation(1) we get-

X=84-Y

=>X=84-48

=>X=36

Therefore,

The 1st number will be=36

AND the 2nd number will be =48
