Let the first part be x

      and the second one be y

So, according to the question,

                     x = y + 8    ...... (i)

and                x + y = 80

               or,  x = 80 - y   .......(ii)

By varying (i) & (ii),

            y + 8 = 80 - y

      or,  y + y = 80 - 8

      or,  2 y  =  72

      or,  y  = 72/2 = 36

So, y = 36

After putting the value of y into no. (i),

          x = y + 8

    or,  x = 36 + 8 = 44

So, x = 44

Therefore, the first part ill be 44 and the second one will be 36, when we divide 84 into two parts such that one of them exceeds the other by 8 and their sum is 80.  (Ans.)
