$8x = 12$

$x = \frac{12}{8}$

$x = 1.5$

1x= 1.5cm

2x= 2(1.5)

=3cm

3x= 3(1.5)

= 4.5cm

The line segment is divided into: 1.5cm, 3cm, 3cm and 4.5cm.
