Question - 1)

Divide Rs. 84 in the ratio of 5 : 7

Solution:

Lets two part be 5x and 7x.

⇒ 5x + 7x = 84

⇒ 12x = 84

⇒ x = 84/12

⇒ x = 7

Hence,

  • 1st part = 5x = 5 × 7 = Rs. 35
  • 2nd part = 7x = 7 × 7 = Rs. 49

Question - 2)

Divide 450 g in the ratio of 5 : 4.

Solution:

Lets two parts be 5x and 4x.

⇒ 5x + 4x = 450

⇒ 9x = 450

⇒ x = 450/9

⇒ x = 50

Hence,

  • 1st part = 5x = 5 × 50 = 250 g
  • 2nd part = 4x = 4 × 50 = 200 g

Question - 3).

Divide a length of 1 m 71 cm in the ratio of 11 : 8.

Solution:

We know that 1 m = 100 cm

∴ Total length = 100 + 71 cm = 171 cm

Let two parts be 11x and 8x.

⇒ 11x + 8x = 171

⇒ 19x = 171

⇒ x = 171/19

⇒ x = 9

Hence,

  • 1st part = 11x = 11 × 9 = 99 cm
  • 2nd part = 8x = 8 × 9 = 72 cm

Question - 4)

Divide 3 litres in the ratio of 1:2:3.

Solution:

We know that, 1 litre = 1000 ml

∴ 3 litres = 3000 ml

Lets three parts be x, 2x and 3x.

⇒ x + 2x + 3x = 3000

⇒ 6x = 3000

⇒ x = 3000/6

⇒ x = 500

Hence,

  • 1st part = x = 500 ml
  • 2nd part = 2x = 2 × 500 = 1000 ml
  • 3rd part = 3x = 3 × 500 = 1500 ml

Step-by-step explanation:

(i) ₹84=(7+5)

₹84=12x

x=₹7

₹5×7 and ₹7×7

₹35 and₹49

(ii)450 g=(5+4)

450g=9x

x=50g

5×50g and 4×50g

250g and 200g

(iii)1m71 cm=100+71=171 cm

171 cm=(11+8)

171 cm=19x

x=9

11×9 and 8×9

99 and 72

(iv)3 litre=3000 ml

3000 ml=(1+2+3)

3000 ml=6x

x=500 ml

1×500 ml,2×500 ml and 3×500 ml

500 ml,1000 ml and 1500 ml
