Divide rs 10000 in two parts so that the simple interest on the first part for 4 years at 12% per annum may be equal to the simple interest on the second part for 4.5 years at 16% per annum.

Find P1 and P2 such that I1 = I2

P1 x r1 x n1 = P2 x r2 x n2

P1 x 12 x 4 = P2 x 16 x 4.5

P1 / P2 = (16 x 4.5) / (12 x 4)

P1 / P2 = 3 / 2

Let P1 = 3k and P2 = 2k

Substitute in (i)

3k + 2k = 10000

5k = 10000

k = 2000

P1 = 6000

P2 = 4000
