Dividing Rs. 300 in the ratio 2 : 3 , the amounts are Rs. 120 and Rs. 180 respectively

Given :

The amount Rs. 300

To find :

Divide Rs. 300 in the ratio 2 : 3

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Form the equation

We have to divide Rs. 300 in the ratio 2 : 3

Let the two parts in which we divide Rs. 300 be Rs. 2x and Rs. 3x respectively

Then by the given

2x + 3x = 300

Step 2 of 2 :

Find the amounts

2x + 3x = 300

⇒ 5x = 300

⇒ x = 300/5

⇒ x = 60

First amount = Rs. 2x = Rs. ( 2 × 60 ) = Rs. 120
