The quantity which is to be divided in the ratio of 4:1 is 500.

Now , to divide a quantity in a ratio we need to take a common variable. Let it be x.

By this the quantities we have are as under :-

4x and x

ATQ,

4x + x = 500

5x = 500

x = 500/5

x = 100

Now the quantities we had were 4x and x .

Substitute the value of x in these.

x = 100

4x = 400

So , 500 can be divided in the ratio of 4:1 by the values 400 and 100.

Thank You !
