x-1 = 0

x = 1

p(x) = x^3 -2x^2 -5x +4

p(1) = 1^3 -2(1^2) -5(1) +4

= 1 -2 -5 +4

= 5 - 7

p(1) = -2

Therefore the remainder is -2

Hence proved.
