Given :  x³+2x²-5x-6

To Find : Divide by x - 2   using long division

Solution:

                       x² + 4x + 3

       x - 2  _|  x³+2x²-5x-6    |_

                       x³ - 2x²

                    ___________

                             4x² -5x - 6

                             4x² -8x

                         __________

                                      3x - 6

                                      3x - 6

                                   _______

                                          0

Quotient  =    x² + 4x + 3

Remainder = 0

Divisor = Dividend * Quotient + Remainder

x³+2x²-5x-6 = (x - 2)( x² + 4x + 3) + 0
