SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

To divide x³-3x²-9x-5 by x+1

EVALUATION

We have to divide x³-3x²-9x-5 by x+1

First we factorise x³-3x²-9x-5

 \sf{ {x}^{3}  - 3 {x}^{2} - 9x - 5 }

 \sf{  = {x}^{3}  +  {x}^{2}  - 4 {x}^{2} - 4x - 5x - 5 }

 \sf{  = {x}^{2} (x + 1)   - 4x(x + 1) - 5(x  + 1)}

 \sf{  =(x + 1)( {x}^{2}  - 4x - 5)}

Hence the required result

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{ {x}^{3}  - 3 {x}^{2} - 9x - 5 }{(x + 1)} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{ (x + 1)( {x}^{2}  - 4x - 5)}{(x + 1)} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ = ( {x}^{2}  - 4x - 5) }
