Basically there are 4 types/kinds of sentences in English grammar those are :-

1] Assertive/ Declarative sentence:-

→ These sentence can be called as assertive or Declarative sentence both. In simple words these sentence depict any feeling or opinion. And also these sentence tells when any information is given.

→ These can be written as both negative or positive.

→ For eg; Seema is not going to school today.

2] Imperative sentence:-

→ These are also known as command sentence. This sentence tells us about any command, instructions, request or any offer us being made by any person to another person.

→ They can also be in negative or positive both.

→ For eg; Go and get your notebook.

3] Interrogative sentence:-

→ These sentence tells when the first person asks any questions to another person, means these sentence are always going to be in Direct speech.

→ For eg; Can I go there?

4] Exclamatory sentence:-

→ This sentence depicts strong emotions or feelings of a person. Exclamatory mark can be out anywhere here, at the Beginning or at the end.

→ For eg; Wow! Such an amazing view.

What is a question tag ?

  • Question tag means when a person ask any question or express his/her emotions.

  • Question tags are always expressed in interrogative sentence.

  • Question tags are always asked in direct speech, as the first person is asking or expressing the emotions.

  • Negative sentence will have positive question tag and positive sentence will have negative question tag.

Few examples :-

1. It is very offensive, isn't it ?

2. You are going next, aren't you ?

3. She was not there, was she ?
