The cells of alveoli in the lungs also require oxygen to carry out cellular respiration.

Explanation:

  • This is because just like all the other cells the cells of the lungs also required to perform aerobic respiration. Aerobic respiration requires plenty of oxygen.
  • Otherwise in absence of oxygen there would be anaerobic respiration and the production of lactic acid in the lungs cell which would cause fatigue in the  lungs cell resulting in the collapse of the lungs.
