First of all, in a democratic govt you are choosing your leader. So it's in your benefit. They will work for your benefit. There are no types of restrictions imposed on your property, or your business. Like in countries like China, where they follow a Socialist type of government, you are not allowed to run your own business. Wealth is equally distributed between the citizens. Democracy doesn't follow this.
Moreover in a democratic govt you have much freedom as compared to other types of govt. It's your and only your choice if you want to start your own business. Your wealth won't be collected by the govt, thus pioneering the development. Yes democratic govt does not hamper a county's development, like in China where you earn ( if most unlikely you have a business), part of it goes to the govt, so people will of course not start their own business as they'll have no benefits thus hampering a country's development.
