No, Elements belonging to same period do not show similar chemical properties because throughout a period if we go from left to right, we can see that the elements falling on the right side are positively charged (metals) (exception of hydrogen) whereas elements in the right side are negatively charged and noble gases with no charge. This is because across a period, the valency of elements first increases then decreases, this determines their metallic and non metallic behaviour as well and metals and non metals behave differently based on their chemical structure. Also, Since these elements have different valencies their participation in reactions will also vary, For an example, we see that Period 1 contains hydrogen and Helium, now hydrogen, in particular, involves in many reactions (with metals as well as non metals) whereas helium doesn't react with any element at all since it's a noble gas, so it tells that these elements being of same period do not possess similar chemical properties.
