do excessive quantities of chemicals in water bodies have any effect on aquatic organisms? if so how??​

it may cause water pollution and affect aquatic life. for example: eutrophication caused by surface run off leads to reduction of oxygen in water and affects aquatic life

contamination of water bodies by heavy metals also affects aquatic life

Yes, Exceccisive quantity of chemicals harm water bodies which have a tremendous affect on aquatic organisms

For ex.

If due to certain problem the oil is leaked into a water body. The oil covers the surface of the water and do not allow air or sunlight to penetrate in water. Due to this there is great loss of marine life
