Explanation:

Given -

  • A car travels from Bangalore to Mumbai and returns back in 20 hours.
  • Odometer reading of the car when it started was 2200 km and when its finished was 3800 km.

To Find -

  • Average speed and Average velocity of the car

As we know that :-

  • Average speed = total distance travelled / total time taken

» Total distance = 3800 - 2200 = 1600 km

Total time = 20 hrs

Then,

Average speed = 1600/20

» 80 kmph

And

Average velocity = displacement/total time

As we know that :-

  • Displacement :-

Shortest distance between initial position and final position.

Here, Displacement = 0 because car comes back to its initial position.

So,

Average velocity = 0

Hence,

Average speed = 80 kmph

And

Average velocity = 0
