Answer:

Explanation:

here can be many reasons for this. Licking their lips is not only a sign of hunger in animals, but it serves a variety of purposes.

- When an animal is hungry (including humans), then their salivary glands produce saliva, which is a reflex action, and we have no control over it. If you'll notice, the more you lick your lips, the more it has a tendency to get drier. So, it becomes a continuous process, as the more lips get dry, the more they will lick it to restore it to normal.

- Often, a pet will lick their lips when they see their master, coz "master==food". They form a correlation between the two, and so, it becomes a reflex action for them to salivate when they see their masters to indicate their hunger, to get food.

- When an animal is in the middle of a confrontation (say, hunting prey) it will lick its lips on seeing its prey. This may not be an indication of hunger, but a calming signal for themselves, for a stressful and uncomfortable situation. (Similarly dogs will lick their lips when their pictures are taken, indicating their stress). It's a signal.

Even humans tend to lick their lips when anxious
